The Basics of Air Conditioning

Air Conditioners cool buildings by removing the heat from the interior air. A refrigerant in the system absorbs unwanted heat from the indoor air. This refrigerant is pumped through the air conditioning system to a coil that is housed in a unit outside the building. This coil has a fan that blows air over it, removing the heat from the refrigerant inside the coil. This outdoor coil and housing is considered the "hot" side of an air conditioner.

The "cold" side of the air conditioner is located inside a building. This "cold" side has an expansion valve, coils for the refrigerant and a blower. The expansion valve lets the refrigerant flow through the coils. This refrigerant expands in the coils and cools. The blower brings air from the inside of the building across the coils. This air is warm; the coils absorb the warmth and transfer it to the refrigerant which is piped to the outside "hot" side of the air conditioner unit. The air that had it's warmth removed is re-circulated inside the building and is much cooler.

An air conditioning system can also clean air through filters and devices in the duct work and can control the moisture level in the inside air.

Yuhan Heating and Air Conditioning can service, maintain, fix and install upgrades for all types of air conditioner systems. We also work with new home construction to install complete systems and air quality devices.
